Making a donation
From this page, you can use a credit card to make a donation to me
(Julian Bradfield) in appreciation of my Mah-Jong program.
(Are you in the UK? If so, please send me a cheque instead, or we'll
both pay unnecessary charges!)
(You can also use PayPal -- send to mahjong@stevens-bradfield.com. This is also cheaper than using the button below. In this case, your donation
will be acknowledged manually.)
You might like to do this because you enjoy using my program, and
would buy me a drink if you ever saw me! I know from my own experience
that one can very seldom be bothered to donate, because it's too hard
sending money to people in other countries. So I thought I would see
what happens if I make it easy for people to donate. (Despite the fact
that the README file asks for donations to Amnesty, or to me, out of
hundreds of downloads not one person has done so.
I don't believe either that the programs are so bad, or that nobody
would like to recognize my work, so I put it down to the hassle of paying.)
Another reason is that I will try to recognize people who make donations.
You can, if you like, be listed as a supporter. You will also get (if, and
only if, you want them!) immediate announcements of upgrades, early access
to new releases, and will be consulted on the priority of enhancements
and upgrades. (Of course, I take suggestions from anybody, but supporters'
suggestions will be at the head of the queue.)
Yet a third reason is that if you are a free software supporter, this is one
way to demonstrate that it is possible not to lose money (as I do at present)
by making free software. That's politics, though...
Important notes
Before you make a donation, please read and note the following points,
for your protection and mine.
-
No contract. If you make a donation, it is a gift to me.
Although I may provide additional services or features in response, these
are purely as a `thank-you'; there is no contract between us, and such
services may be discontinued at any time.
-
Changing your mind. You can withdraw your donation and get a refund
to your credit card up to 90 days after donating. I can't think why you would do this, but if you do, please try to do so within a week, to make the accounting easier.
-
Please do not reveal your donation record. You will receive an
identifier for your donation which will give you access to any
supporters' features. Please do not reveal this identifier (which is
also a record of your credit card payment) to anybody else.
-
Credit card charge. Your credit card will be charged by
"CLICKBANK / KEYNETICS".
-
Data protection. I do not collect or store any
personal information when you make a donation. The only information I record
is the IP address of the machine from which a donation is made.
However, the bureau (ClickBank) which takes your payment does store
some personal information which they make available to me: your name
and email address. They also keep other accounting information as part
of their transaction with your credit card company. I will use the
information they provide only for resolving any problems with
your donation, and for accounting as required by law, and for no other
purpose. Note to European Union residents: ClickBank operates in
the U.S.A., so when you provide your details to them, those data will not
be protected by EU legislation. You should make your own evaluation of
their trustworthiness.
If you make a donation, you will have the possibility to register with
me. Relevant data protection issues will be explained to you before you
register.
So much for the formalities. Now some more important points:
- If you have any problems with this site,
please mail mahjong@stevens-bradfield.com and I will investigate as soon as I can.
Serious problems will automatically be reported to me anyway,
but don't let that stop you.
- I donate part of each donation to
Amnesty International (with whom I have
no other connection). I recognize that some people do not approve of Amnesty's
campaigns; so if you are not willing for part of your fee to go to
Amnesty, please uncheck the box below.
-
You can donate $8, $15, or $22. (Exercise: why those numbers?-). If you are
so wildly impressed that you want to give me more than that, let me know!
